I've officially given up on the factory paint

I have never washed or waxed with anything other than a 100% cotton or terry cloth towel. Tried Scratch-X and many waxes and it still looks as though I wash & wax with 100 grit sandpaper. Guess I'll have to take it and get it buffed to get rid of the swirl marks.
The kicker is that I wash & wax the wife's 98 blazer with the same stuff I use on mine and her finish is 5x better looking.
Any suggestions before I fork over $200 to buff out the swirls?
