Re: Another Lowering Question

Tough to say. I also have done some looking into the subject. The D has a 3 1/2" axle, same as the Dakota R/T. The regular Dakota has a 3". DJM sells Dakota R/T 1,2,3" block kits and has Durango specific 2,3" kits. The Durango kit consist of blocks, swaybar end links and shock relocation plates. I'm sure the D specific kits are probably the best thing to do. I cannot say what what if anything would happen from not using the D kit. Lowering apparently does affect how the sway bar works. I checked with Hotchkis's site. Hotchkis sells different swaybars for lowered and non lowered Dakotas. I did not really want to lower mine much. Fooling too much with the torsion bars can affect the front spring rates. I have Hotchkis rear sway bars. I would hate to screw up the way they work. Best mod that I've done. I went with a 1" Dakota R/T kit. It should level out the rear. Maybe I'll have to tweek down the front a little. They just came in the mail Monday. Going on this weekend. You do have to drill out the stock shock mount plates to 5/8". Man that's a big drill bit. Borrowed a nice 1/2" drill from work for the job. If I were you, I'd go with the D specific kit and do it right. Also, don't buy direct from DJM. Their direct prices are higher. I bought mine from www.stylinconcepts.com Other places carry DJM including Summit Racing.
Hey Drop D. I know you said you had to drill yours. The holes in the shock plates are pretty close to the leaf springs. It looks like it will be extremely close with the 5/8" u bolts.
