They weren't really a limited production car. GTO was just an option to the mid-sized LeMans body like R/T is an option on the Durango. Sales must have been good because in the late 60s to early 70s there were a lot of them running around.

Funny thing on the Z28. In '69 there were only a few thousand produced - I think less than 5000. If you were to search all the "collector" car sites today I bet you can find more than that number for sale?

BTW We used to say GTO stood for "gas, tires, and oil" because it took a lot of those to keep them running.
