I'm sticking with Tigger on this one.  Radio (or and RF antennae for that matter) size is based on frequency- hence why CB antenna are so long as they operate around 27mHz.  The factory 'whip' style antenna was designed to give a decent amount of gain (measured in db) near the center of the FM Band with the gain in the high and lower end of the FM Bands' gain decreasing slightly.  This new antenna you installed will pick up some RF (just as a coat hanger would) but it is not properly matched to the frequency you are using it at.  It's all about what matters to you- in my case radio is my life, so I NEED clean reception, for others that may listen to CD's more often, and looks matter more then function this may be a product for them... Personally I'll take function over form any day!
