Re: Superchargers

You'll find the general consensus here is don't do it, because percentage wise the number of members who have tried with success is not so hot. OTOH, if you were monitoring the Dakota R/T board(same drivetrain), you'd find the success rate much better. But there is a MUCH higher percentage of Dakota R/T members with supercharged trucks. Also means they've been through a bit more of the school of hard knocks(no pun intended) on how to tune them properly.

John offered the most prudent advice and that is to look at other mods first. There are many normally aspirated mods(TB, intake, heads, cam, cold air, ignition) that can be done before you have to cross the forced induction threshold. If after you have done all of those mods and you still feel the "need for speed" your motor will be better prepared for the S/C install and by then hopefully you will have time to fully research all the pitfalls and necessities associated with installing a blower. Don't think for a second that you buy any of the available kits and run much more than 5 psi without risk of detonation or popping head gaskets. I've yet to see a comprehensive kit(though the Paxton is worth noting) that bolts on right out of the box and PROPERLY addresses added fuel and spark control requirements. Most have one form or another of "band aid" approaches that either limit performance potential or unnecessarily raise your risk of engine damage.
