I'm guessing yours just turned about 3000 miles? Many, many people have noted that the idle drops to 500 somewhere around 3000-4500 miles. Both of my Ds did the same. I think it may be something programmed for engine break-in. I'm not quite sure... Either way, the 500-550 RPM idle is there to stay... You'll notice that it will idle at 650-700 when the A/C or defrost is on, however. Mine's been idling like that from 3000 miles and I have 22k on her now.
