I had the same problem on my 2000 R/T Whatever you do....dont hit it directly with any high powered water either at home or the car wash. It will take get under the paint. I ended up taking mine off and painting it myself. Removal is very easy to do...just remove about 8 bolts that connect it to the hood and its off
