Tranny question... Steve Jameson

I've got a '98 5.2, and the tranny is acting up. At WOT it slips when shifting in second so bad that I have to lift my foot to get it to engage. Someone told me that this is a defect in the valve body. Is this true? And if so can it be fixed by replacing the valve body or do I need to replace the entire tranny?TIA
