Re: Removing those pesky driving lights Aaron [NorCal] 99,PB,5.2,PT4WD

I just installed some PIAA 510s, so this is still fresh in my memory. To remove the lights, you have to remove the entire assembly. It is held on with 2 bolts each, coming from the top, through the bumper. Just remove the 2 bolts, and they'll come right out.
As for wiring, it depends. I was going to try to use the existing wiring, but it wouldn't work for me. The existing switch apparently interupts the ground instead of interupting the power lead. IE, there is always +12V at the light. That works OK, because as you will notice, the mounting bracket for the stock lights is plastic. I mounted my lights using a metal bracket, and the case of the 510s acts as a ground. See where I'm going. The switch interupts the ground, but now there is a ground path through the case and then through the metal bracket to the metal bumper. Therefore, the lights were always on, regardless of the switch position. It even worked with the ignition off. So, to make a long story even longer, I had to use the new wire harness that came with the lights.
Hope this helps,
Aaron
