Re: Air Filters/ K&N Versus Amsoil Reusable (long) Neil

The debate will rage forever. There are so many threads on various forums (I can point you to some)on K&N effectiveness vs engine wear. Nobody denies that light dust is evident in intake tracks with K&N use. I've seen it. The question is how much wear occurs and over what peroid of time. There are plenty of people who have high mileage motors that have been using K&N filters. Some have been torn down and no evidence of wear has been posted. I had a K&N on my original motor Mustang 5.0 engine for nine years with 140k mi. (It was replaced due to other reasons.) It was not torn down but cylinder compression was fine. I doubt with normal usage you will have any problems or measurable wear over the life of you vehicle using a K&N. Regular oil changes remove most of the contaminates. Yes people say they use them off-road without and problems also. If you do a lot of off-roading with heavy dust, maybe I'd consider it's use. In all of the debates I have yet to see someone say that their engie failed due to the rocks a gravel that their K&N let into their engine.
