I only use the cross straps that came with the Thule. I don't tie the front or rear of the canoe down. The main concern with canoes is keel stearing in the wind ripping them off sideways. Very rarely does a canoe lift up, and even then the straps will prevent that.
Granted, I've only tested mine to 65 mph ;^)
Yakima also makes an excellent, well thought out rack. I'm not familiar with the Mopar canoe mount.
