3500 is way underpowered.

The general rule for winches is 1.5 times the vehicle weight. For a D that means an 8000 winch at least. I have a 8000 lb on my 3500 lb Jeep. Many of my fellow off-roaders use a 9000-9500 lb winch.

A serious part of the expense is the bumper mount, so be sure to have your wallet prepare for that too.
