$250 for a broken mirror!! Help!!

I posted a week or so ago and had some good replies, but now I really need help. I called Dodge today to take my car in for other things, but inquired about replacing a Broken driver's side mirror - cracked when hit with a football. They said its $250 (149 mirror, 100 labor - something like that). I said - No all I have is a cracked mirror. They said it only comes a s a complete unit, motors and all. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO? $250 for a cracked mirror? Glad they didn't break my window - it'd probably be 6000 bucks.

If I were to try to replace it, does anyone know how to go about either pulling off the mirror itself or taking off the entire mirror/motor assembly (the black sticky outy elephant ear - I assume the motor is in there somewhere).
