Removing just the old cracked mirror piece is no big deal. Big Al

Rotate the mirror out as far as it will go and then grab the inside edge (closest to the door) and gently but firmly pull out on it until the mirror piece snaps out (there's a sort of ball-joint on the back that holds it in place on the motor assembly.) If you have heated mirrors, there'll also be some wires attached to the back of the mirror piece to power the heating element. Now, getting the new mirror back in without breaking the glass is the tricky part! You have to get the ball-joint coupler lined up correctly and then rock the mirror back and forth while gently pressing on the top and bottom "center" of the glass. If you press too hard, or press on the outer left/right edges you can easily crack the glass!
