Quad Beam question

Hello,
Has anyone had any experience with the KC HiLites Quad Beam kit (or any other quad beam kit for that matter)? The instructions say to unplug the headlight and use a test light to determine which wire is hot. Well when I tested all three leads with no lights on, they were all hot. When I turned on the low beams, the left and middle lead were hot but the RIGHT lead (purple wire) was not. Then, when I turned on the high beams, the middle and RIGHT lead were hot and the LEFT (orange wire) was not. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some sort of relay in there? I need to tap into the hot wire for the low beams and high beams for this kit but I can't tell which is which. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,
