Hi; thought you might like to hear that I had the same probs with my MSD unit. I used to do a lot of road racing and always used MSD products and never had a prob. Then it happend I got a defective unit and nothing but probs with the factory. They did the samething to me sent a new unit with no reason as to what was wrong with the other unit. this happend 4 time in a row. So I switched to mallory and have never had a prob yet. Try a mallory High Fire unit you will proably like it.Just my 2 cents worth
