Re: There are many reasons to upgrade...

The factory unit is fine for stock to mildly modded cars, but an aftermarket CD or other type of ignition system helps with many areas. The first thing I always notice when upgrading to the MSD unit is the idle. It is smoother. Then there's trottle response. That is improved as well. The one thing I never gave any thought to was emissions. On all previous cars, I got lower numbers when getting smogged. The drop in HCs means a more complete burn is taking place. If that's happening, more power and fuel economy are also happening.

I've got the following mods and can tell the difference when the MSD is connected and when it's not. I'm so glad it's back. She's much peppier now. With the Mopar PCM, my WOT shifts happen around 5400. The stock coil starts dropping off after 4500. The MSD coil can go well beyond that and maintain full spark. This is especially important since the MSD sustains the spark for a longer duration at higher RPMs.

MSD Offroad
MSD Blaster SS coil
MSD 8.5mm wires
Accel cap and rotor
Champion Truck plugs
Crower 1.7 roller rockers
Mopar performance PCM
IP Stage III intake
Bored out / cleaned up TB
Mesa Headers (nice headers, crappy company I don't recommend)
Flowmaster 70 series

And as soon as I can find the model / kit, I'll be purchasing an ATI Intercooled SC.
