?not shifting when it should?

Hi All Our 98 Durango has something new going on. When we sit at a drive up window at the bank in gear for about 5-10min, when we pull away the D won't shift. Its stays in what feels like 1st gear for a very long time. It has done this 5 to 6 times now. And I have made sure the D was in Drive. After you drive awhile it shifts fine. Anyone have any Idea?Thanks Bob and Liz Blackmore
