Before I bought my 99 5.9 4X I looked at two in the lot set up exactly the same. One of them had a horrible noise coming from the rear end while the one that I ended up buying didn't have it. The one I bought started to make the same noise after about a month. (Turns out the leaf spring plastic spacers needed to be lubed (WD40)). Both had offset steering wheels. One had a door spring that made abnormal noises. The same one had scratches in the paint. Both drove about the same. The one I finally bought has had no problems in 17K miles aside from the following:
1. Occasional steering wheel clunk and clicking noises.
2. The offset steering wheel was cured by rotating the tires.

Other than that I only have done routine oil changes every 3000 miles. I bought the 100K warranty just in case though. Murphy's law says that if I don't buy the warranty, I will have problems.
