That black substance could be brake dust, which is normal. Be sure to point it out to your service manager when you take the D in. If it is grease or brake fluid, etc,. you need to address it ASAP. Your experience in 4WD opn sounds normal. I don`t put mine in 4WD on paved surfaces unless there is smow or ice between my tires and the road surface. Good luck!
