I think that stiffer performance shocks would tend to maintain contact on the road more than would "softer" ones.

It is my experience that softer shocks tend to permit more "bounce" or "hop" than would harder performance shocks. When a bump is encountered the shock should compress less than a softer shock, thereby keeping the tire on the road, which is the main objective of a performance shock. So, I'm not sure if a softer shock would be the answer here.
