Re: Extended warranties

Personally, I am going to go with the Chrysler MaxCare 7/100 with either $0 or $50 deductible (haven't decided which yet). There is a guy who advertises these contracts for $50 over invoice. My dealer will only go as low as $200 over invoice - but there are very valid reasons for his not wanting to go lower (see my previous post on Mar 24 %40 8:54am for longer discussion). Therefore, I am going to buy it from my dealer.
I trust my dealership, which is not a 5 star dealer. In my experience, 5 star dealers try to capitalize on this rating by charging more in areas they can get away with it (one was going to charge me ~$450 for documentation, title, and other misc fees when I was going to buy my car from them!). Another dealer simply doesn't know what they are doing service wise (that's another story, to be posted shortly). I have had universally poor experiences at such dealers (of course, I have only been to three such dealers with extensive contacts with only two of them, so my experience is limited). The dealership I got my car from is very, very small and doesn't have alot of the equipment a larger dealer has. But they seem to be very honest from my dealings with them, and they go out of their way to help me.
I agree with Herman that, if you don't like the dealership you go to, then don't limit yourself to dealer service. However, there is something to be said for just going to the dealer and not worrying about having a third party involved with payment. Chrysler's contracts are simpler from this perspective, but you will pay for that simplicity.
Good luck! Let us know what you decide.
