Extended warranties

I have a 98 D, and am now considering an extended warranty. Does anyone have any thought or experiences (good or bad) they can share. Should I buy it from my local dealer?, or third party? Are these negotiable?. Can I buy a discounted Dodge warranty over the net instead of the local dealer?
