My brother works for Reseda Dodge here in L.A. and said that the company they use deals in factory glass and does the work there at the dealer. He says they've successfully replaced dozens of windshields with no leaks, breaks, etc.
I know what you're talking about. I had a friend go to one of the cheapo places and it leaked, then cracked under freeway driving and had to be replaced again. I have a crack in my '85 T/A and the $149 replacement sounds great, but is risky at best. Hmmm....
Thanks for the info.

the basic issue was the extreme caution one must exercise when choosing someone to replace a windshield, the installer must be certified, etc and even then it's no guarantee it will be done to specs. All kinds of things, like the glass should not be touched except with the tools because the oils in skin will mess up the install etc. One lady had her new windshield shatter due to improper install, caused major head injury etc. I don't mean to be an alarmist, but would want to know if I was in the market. Maybe the info is on the website for 20/20 or Dateline, it was in the last week, I'll check and report back.
