don't let your 1st grade kids live in fear of gun violence at school. Chances are, it's not going to happen. It may be difficult, but try reassure your fiends daughter that she is safe. A first grader is more likely to get hit by a D at that age than be shot by a fellow schoolmate. The fact that the national media jumped on this story demonstrates that gun violence uncommon in elementary schools. My heart goes out to the parents of the killed child and to her family and friends.
What bugs me is that the president has already made a campaign issue of this tragedy. He again has called on more gun control legislation, yet did not mention the probable negligence of the shooter's parents. What new law would have prevented this tragedy? Gunlocks can be left undone, laws can be violated and often are by irresponsible parents... Sorry for getting political. I would actually welcome meaningful gun legislation, I just think Clinton's ideas would make people less safe in the long run.
Anyway, secure your guns. Teach your kids morality. Keep an eye on your kids and who they play with as best you can. In addition, try to minimize the fear that can result from such a tragedy as best you can. My prayers go out to you and the people of the Mount Morris Township.
