I thought that after 12 days at the dealer and the total replacement of the steering column from the wheel to the firewall that this nuisance was fixed. Now a month after the repair, the squeek (or chirp) is back.

For those of you who do not have the problem, it generally occurs at neighborhood speeds (10 to 30 mph) when turning to the right. Any small bump or vibration in the D while turning to the right causes a squeek or chirp from the dash area. It does not happen when traveling straight, or turning to the left.

Has anyone had this problem and successfully had it silenced? A post four months ago mentioned the replacement of the airbag clock spring taking care of it for one member. Has anyone else had this problem? Solutions? Suggestions? Please post any comments as I really would like to be able to offer suggestions to my dealer when I take it back in.

Thanks.

Chris
Chris, our 99 D had the same problem....the dealer replaced the steering column at 600 miles and just replaced it again at 6,000 miles;when turning, you heard a popping noise come from the
steering column.

Hopefully, after having the column replaced twice, the problem has been solved.. if not they can either take the vehicle back under the California Lemon Law or fix it right.
