etc. are all taking steps to protect themselves. Some are pulling servers off line and/or filtering/searching for viruses, all are backing up. They are not doing this because of Y2K bugs however. Rather to protect themselves from the expected hackers and viruses and the possibility of power failures. There are a great many viruses set to go off at the magic hour as well as unknown numbers of hackers poised to strike during the opportunity that y2k creates. If things go haywire programmers and operators will not know if its a virus, hacker or y2k bug at work. A playground for hackers that will have plenty of time to practice their trade during the chaos of trying to figure it out.

Not to worry, the DOC website is backed up off site to disk and tape.
