Others had posted a message indicating that they had experienced the "clunking" / "looseness" in the steering wheel. I have had my D to the dealer about 5 times to get this taken care of. There is not a TSB on a 99 Durango for the problem, but there is for the 98. I referred them to this. The first repair was the intermediate shaft. This fixed it for about 3 weeks. I took it back and they bent a peice of metal back into place? ...that they said was touching the steering column. They also replaced a seat adjuster that they said was allowing the seat to make a clunking sound when I would drive through a dip. Far from what the real problem was. That fix lasted about 5 minutes. I took it back with the information that I had found on this board. The looked up the TSB for the 98 and replaced the steering column. It actually did pretty well this time for about 2 weeks (even though they broke the cruise control). I am now starting to feel the looseness and popping again. It makes me sick to pay 30K for a vehicle and feel like it is falling apart when I drive it. I love the truck. I just wish that someone knew how to solve the problem!!! My theory right now is that they replaced the shaft only (when they should have replaced both the shaft and steering column) and it wore out. Then they replaced the steering column only, and now I think it is wearing out because the shaft is worn out. Who out there has experienced these problems, and how did they get resolved??? I need help. I love everything about the Durango, but I will not live with this problem beyond the warranty period!
