The problem with awd is that 80%/20% stuff.
If a minivan has this setup then most power still goes to the front axle and the other 20% goes through a torque converter(possible slippage) and maybe get some power to the rear wheels.
If you look at the power distribution on something like the Durango it will say something like 50/50% or 45%/55%.
In other words your are getting a better distribution of power on a Durango then you do on a minivan.
Also I would take a wild guess to say that awd is cheaper to make then regular 4wd.
But it is not as good!!!!!
