How do you pronounce Daimler-Chrysler? Ans: "Daimler
---- Chrysler is silent."
Has anyone seen the (sad) article in the current issue of MotorTrend which seems to say that the "merger" was about the same as the merger of Jonah and the Whale (read: "takeover"). It mentions the names of many top Chrysler executives that have left since the merger and seems to indicate that Chrysler has basically lost its identity. The shots are being called from Germany. It will be a very sad thing if Chrysler loses the edge that it has cultivated since coming back from near extinction. The cars and trucks that it has been designing over the last few years (including but not limited to our beautiful and functional D's) IMHO blow the others out of the water. What a shame it would be if this creativity were to be stiffled. They take show cars to market almost immediately (Viper, Prowler and the new retrovan they are scheduled to release on the Neon platform- among others)and the cars they produce (the Chrysler M, for example) have nicer styling than almost anything around.
